Colloid Cysts

Hi,
I am 32 ,on May 2008 I had undergone Colloid cyst surgery,They had removed the colloid cyst by drilling. I have 2 yrs old son.

Is colloid cyst a heriditary one?

Please reply.

how does colloid cyst forms and doctor say it is a raree one.

Hi, Thank you for your query. Colloid cyst is benign, congenital cysts of third ventricle of brain. It may cause obstruction in the drainage of Cerebrospinal fluid from brain possibly leading to obstructive hydrocephalus manifesting as headache, vertigo and blurred vision etc. It's etiology is debated and it is considered to originate from paraphysis. Colloid cysts are formed by increased secretion of mucinous fluid in the epithelial lining Though it is congenital but its presentation may occur during adulthood (so we can not precisely rule out the problem during childhood itself.). It may have familial occurrence so it is advisable to get your son also evaluated with a doctor if at any time he complains of any headache or any cyst related symptoms.  Hope this helps.

Thanks Dr.My son is also examined and there are no symptoms of such now.he is 3.5 yrs old now.

My colloid cyst was "3rd Ventricular Colloid Cyst",and it was removed by Right Transcortical approach and total Excision of Sol.

Now i am fine now
