The fact that your loved one is not on a respirator says goodthings however she could come out of the coma and not live the life that she has gotten used to her survival depends on how long her brain went without oxygen.if there is a gag reflex and a response to pain she is breathing on her own shes not entirely brain dead.

Thank you for such positive response.  She is 73, has been quite sickly, - has an oxygen tank at home which aids her whenever she is out of breath.  On that particular day, she was due for her check up at the heart specialist,  she collapsed at the drs and was out of oxygen for an hour or so,  the dr had resuscitated her and she was placed in ICU, she was on the ventilator and other apparatus's and gradually all apparatus have been removed and she is monitored.   She is breathing on her own, you can see the eye movements under her eye lids,  her lips move, leg twitches etc when you talk to her.  She has opened her eyes a few times, but has a blank stare.   The brain scans show that there has been damage to her brain,  but the drs actually expected worse.   Her vitals are good.  She looks like she is fast asleep. The drs said that they have done all they could,  it is now up to her to get up.  Would this be a possibility
