I honestly do not believe any of what you are experiencing is psychological. I believe it is real. I have or have had many of the things you describe above. I know what I'm experiencing is not psychological except for stress I have from the symptoms. The doctors who are responding on this forum are very good and will probably give you more advice. So hopefully they can help you. I think anyone who has the symptoms you have should have the whole battery of tests to rule in or out possible diseases. I had MRI's of brain, c spine, thoracic and lumbar spine, EMG's, evoked potentials, spinal tap, numerous blood tests to look for autoimmune diseases, lyme test, thyroid test etc....I don't know if this much work-up is possible for you since you don't have insurance. I hope you find out what is ailing you.
I'm almost100% positvie that all these symptoms aren't just phsycological. When I went to the neurologist I set myself up for him to go straight to that. He basiclly looked at me like I have been drinking the koolaid because of the way I was describing things and how disorented(i couldn't even tell him what month it was) I was at the time( I was having a full blown headache at the time), gave me some lexapro and maltrax and gave me another look as if I were some deviant; took my 185 dollars for a 10 minute talk and sent me on my marry way with no advice except take these drugs . Whether your depressed anxious or whatever (the reason i'm depressed, anxious is because of all these changes in by body are gooing on; especially my mind and knowing that living a fruitfull and enjoyable life is going to be a very difficult task with these symptoms going on), is talking a happy pill like lexapro (or maltrax) a good idea when you head is this messed up? I would much ratter use natural methods like excercise or change in enviroment to get my senatonin levels back again. I'm very worried of the adverse affects of that drug wihile my body is working this way because I know that any drug is going to effect me 3 folds more then before all these symptoms came on.
Also, I have studied a little psychology and from what I recall symptoms like severe headaches; are only linked to severe depression, shzorphrenia(deffinetaty known I'm not one of those), or multiple personality disorders( yes i'm having personainlty changes and always have because of the differnet lifes i've lived, but not nearly this severe, but than again what 21 year old doesn't have personaliy issues at this age; it's not like I have a diifenernt name or life style assoicated with diif. personalities. Actually i'm kind of a one demision guy now that I think about it, and guess thats why my behavior lately is raising eyebrows. Do people really strat seeing floaters and have ringing ears just from there state of mind?
The last thing I want to do is go back to that dinosaur! It was a waste of money (givin that i'm not on health insurace) and did or told me absoultely nothing benificieal. That is why I asked above wheter or not he will be able to tell me anything different( ( like enlarged brain venciles or gray matter), or would the dianostic center of told me that?
I'm thinking about getting a blood test to rule out things like thyroid problems, lymes dieases(pulled off a very small back dot off my thigh with small bown circles(like freckiles) in the shape of a ring around it, however that would of been a while back when I got the tick and didn't really look like any of the pictures i've seen of lymes dieases at this stage) chemical toxicity, etc. What is the average cost of blood test and what type should I get for these type of symptoms? Or is it a waste of money and should I have some other test done?
Lastly, can they revevese these types of symptoms even if they find the soul cause? My CNS is shutting down, recently the hearing buzzing and ear senstive to loud noises and more tics happened so I need to act immediatly and stop blowing if off before something elese happeds and I am disabled.
Thanks for the good explanation. From my own personal experience, I find neurologic symptoms terribly disturbing and anxiety producing. I can live with chronic, significant pain and just ignore it but numbness, tingling and constant twitching from head to toe are completely unacceptable. At least for me they are. Especially when the cause cannot be found. I think your responses on this board are very helpful.
Hi.
None taken.
Just to clarify, the basis of the differential diagnosis of an anxiety disorder in this case is the presence of irritability, mood swings, difficulty concentrating, muscle spasms, etc., and was not intended to explain all symptoms of the patient, but to offer insight on what could explain some of the symptoms. It is not uncommon for psychological disorders to exist concomitantly with neurological conditions.
Although there is the possibility that some may offer diagnosis of anxiety disorder for conditions without any probable organic cause, it would be inappropriate to immediately exclude this diagnosis especially since there is evidence based literature that supports anxiety disorder as an etiology for some neurological conditions.
It would be negligence on the part of physicians to exclude, just on the basis of it being considered a "fall-back", any differential diagnosis, whether it be anxiety disorder or another disease, if there is any significant possibility that it is related to the symptoms.
Hope this clears things up.
I really do not think your symptoms are anxiety related. Physicians often give this diagnosis when they don't have an objective cause for symptoms. (no offense Dr. G) but it's true. Negative MRI means no MS lesions, brain tumors etc...This is a good thing.
lyme disease can cause every symptom you listed. You may want to google it.
Hi.
You are correct in that an MRI can visualize those conditions. However, depending on what type of MRI procedure is performed, some conditions may not be assessed. For example, an MRI of the brain would not be able to show abnormalities in the lower spine levels.
MRI findings should always be correlated with the clinical presentation of the patient.
Thak you for you 2 cents
Right now my ears are ringing, I'm seeing two floaters in my left eye, and my head is hurting, allthought not severely.
I thought that the MRI was the univerisal test with these type of symptoms. For instance, you could see things like menegitis, thyroid problems, brain damage, retinal detactmet, and all thoses other nasty things? Or does it just show tumores and recent anurisms? Will neurologist be able to tell me anything different about the MRI resutlt?
Hi.
It could be possible that what you experienced 7 months ago was a transient ischemic attack. However, the finding of recurrent headaches and other symptoms suggest that some other condition might also be present.
Have you been experiencing any anxiety over the past months? Are you subjected to emotional or psychological stress in any way? Stress and anxiety can produce symptoms of this nature which is why it is also important to consider these conditions. You should talk to a therapist to assess these symptoms as well as those of your mood swings, depression, and personality changes.
What MRI was done? A brain MRI or spine MRI? Your other symptoms, such as pain at the back of spine and tingling sensations can be related to an underlying neurologic condition. You should go ahead with the consult with your neurologist.
Good luck.
Hi,
How are you feeling now?
How is your headache?
What I feel, according to your symptomatology, you would have suffered a stroke in the period your symptoms started.
Now what you are feeling is residual paralysis.
You could also get a MR angio to see for any bleed.
Other scans like CT SCAN could help to identify the lesion.
O yeah, I forgot to ask. What other test should I have done besides an MRI?
