Complex Partial Seizure/Stroke?

Complex Partial Seizure/Stroke?

My husband is 40yrs old and began having seizures at 21yrold.  He has also had petite seizures as well.  The Grand Mal have been under control now for 2 years but the petite seizures continue.  He currently s taking 2400mgs of Tegretol time released and 1500mgs of Keppra.  The keppra seemed to stop the petie seizures from 3 a week to 1 every siz weeks or so.  However, since March of 07 he began to have a different type of seizure.  At first we were told it was because he wasn't taking his medicine correctly but we knew that wasn't the case.  In order to prove it, everytime he had this new seizure, I brought into the ER and they would check his Tegretol levels.  Finally after the 7th trip to the ER an ER doctor told us that each time his levels were just fine mostly they were 7 to 10.  So we finally had proof that it wasn't an overdose or over release of medication in his symptoms.  However, these new seizures began coming every 3 to 4 days.  He would first begin staring in space, then you could see the left side of his face drooping, then his hands would curl into a partial fist and his shoulders will droop forward.  His speech gets impaired and he is extremely slow to respond. His vision is impaired, says he sees double, he gets very cold and is very unsteady on his feet.  Within the last 2 months he has begun shaking uncontrollably and his arms will twitch involuntarily.  Without seeing him his Neo prescribed Lyrica 1000mgs.  His last Cat Scan, 3 months ago, showed no changes.  The seizures last about 90 minutes or so and when they are over, he has an extremely painful all over headache and his body aches from head to toe and he sleeps for 6 hours or more.  It takes a good 48 hours before he is back to normal.  Between the seizures I've noticed that while he's just sitting watching tv or reading that his hands will curl up, into like a partial fist and the left side of his mouth will droop downward.  I've also seen his upper lip tremble and his arm muscles will twich as well.  He says he desn't feel or notice any of this happening until I point it out to him.  Some people have said it looks like he's having a stroke.  I'm terrified and so is he.  I've done plenty of reading on line and it seems that what he is now having is called Complex Partial Seizures.  I think he needs an MRI, how do I convince his doctor that he needs one?  He's afraid he'll lose his job because of the amount of time he's been taking off for these seizures.  We are at the end of our rope.  Can someone help, please !!

I would go to the ER and get another scan, some ER's can either do CT or MRI.  I know from experience that sz do change over time, I have partial sz, but I also have started having myoclonic sz.  If you don't get a scan in the ER, then I would ask your neuro to have one done.  If he/she is a good dr. then they will do it.  If your dr says no, then find a new one.  These new symptoms are scary for you and you need a dr who will listen.  Good luck and may God bless you and your husband during this challenging time.
