Complex migraines

I have had migraines fro 12 years, but I was just recently told that I have have complex migraines. I went to a neurologist that I like who started me on Topomax (topamax) a month ago. Since starting the medicine most days I continue to have headaches some days they are severe some days just a dull ache. I went to the ER last week in such server pain that they of course gave me shots of pain medicine. They did an MRI which came back completely normal which is great news, but I am still feeling tired and just not myself. I like my Neurologist well enough, however he gave me Percocet for the pain when I have a headache and gave me Xanax for stress which I do need sometimes. Is this really all that can be done right now to treat these crazy things? He told me that the Topomax (topamax) has to get into my system and to be patient. I have two kids to take care of and a job that depends on me. Just tired of not feeling good or my head hurting or being tired.

If you've not looked into diatary considerations for this, I really really would. Other factors can be that you could be having rebound from the percocet or if you are on the pill..that could be it too.

You may have already looked into these things and if you have I can understand your frusteration. I had a 8 month long migraine over the fall/winter/spring of this year and it was hell. I'm a mom of two kids too.

if you haven't...there is an excellent book out called 'heal your headache'. May be worth looking at.

Answers aren't easy. Mine are managed (two nasties a month now) on gabapentin, imipramine and carbamazapine (which I also take for other things) and Axert for abortive. I shudder though each time I think of going back to solid migraines/severe headaches for that long of a time.
