Complex situation

by Lynda__0, Aug 26, 1998 12:00AM

For the past 21 months, I have had complex symtoms.  Been to 12 doctors,
have ran numerous tests, blood work, MRI, EMG, etc... all normal.  It started
with last two fingers on right hand went numb then last 2 toes on left
foot went numb.  Over the 21 months,  my fingers and toes get very badly
bruised feelings in tips.  Hot burning pain shooting in hands and feet
partially up leg and arms.  Both sides.  Feels as if someone takes a blow
torch to them.  Increase activity equals increase symtoms and pain.  In
July, I started with a hand tremor, then went to uncontrol tremor.  One
week ago, my head started jerking to the left could not control last for
hours straight.  Went to ER they could not explain.  I have in sept, a test
lined up for an emg of autonomic nerves.  I still have the head jerks
about 6 times a day with 24 hours constant mild shaking through out body.
I can feel in the right side of head, arms, legs, and torso.  I developed
bladder spasms 5 days ago.  I have chronic stomach spasms (1 year) and chronic
left ear pain over 1 year.  Can you offer me any insight.  The current docs
are thinking of an unusal autonomic disorder but are not sure. Thanks.

Dear Lynda:
12 MDs is ample evidence that your problem is difficult. Several aspects of your story do not fit together, and I cannot even offer even advice about which subspeciality of neurology to go to.
If you have not been to a reputed tertiary referral academic neurology department yet, I would recommend that you do so. In case you live near Cleveland, we would be very happy to see you here at the Cleveland Clinic. You may call (800)223-2273, or (216)444-5559 for appointments.
