Confirming "plasma exchange" is experimental as a treatment.

At risk of being redundant, I'm re-asking a question posed to this forum
by A. Reitz in March 1998.  Are there any documented successes of treating
MS by plasma exchange. You assessed my niece and suggested pheresis
followed by, possibly, chemo therapy. However, my nieces insurer refuses
to pay for such treatments without first reviewing documented/published
success stories.  I have spent 4 hours searching the world wide web...
and as of late 1997, all web sites I hit are stating that plasma exchange
is experimental or for use in clinical studies.
Is that still the case today??  September, 1998?
My niece's local nephrologist is recommending starting these treatments
A.S.A.P, but without proven documentation or insurance coverage, my
niece is just waiting.
Thanks in advance for any prompt information you can provide.
