Constand Throbbing Headache

Constand Throbbing Headache

For the past week and a half I have been experiencing very painful heachaches located at the left side of my head. It feels as though it is located behind my eye and and into the back of the left side of my head. It feels like a pulsing sensation. I am wondering if I should visit my doctor as I am getting the headaches 2-3 times per day and when I have a headache at night I cannot get to bed. Should I see my doctor?

I have two things to say, and they are somewhat contradictory.  First, you are describing a fairly classic migraine.  Throbbing in nature, one-sided, and also behind the eye.  You should look up migraine headaches, especially known triggers for them fatigue, certain food and wine, etc and see if there is something there that you might need to change.  I didn't hear a description of an "aura" (odd sensations - visual or motor/ sensory) that precede the headache, butmany people suffer from migraines without an

2 or 3 times a day is a little unusual.  Do you happen to have a family history of migraine?

Now, even though the first paragraph is reassuring in nature, the following is part of my medical training that I never ignored.

The onset of a new and persistent (either continual or often recurring) headaches deserves an evaluation.  Yes, you should be seen by your doctor for a neuro exam, a look into the back (retina) of your eye, and perhaps a brain scan.  I recommend this.  It is almost always normal, but "almost always" isn't good enough.  See your doctor.
