Constant dull pain right occiptal? area

by 1McGrawFan, Aug 08, 2004 12:00AM
HI. I had sinus surgery in 2000. Had my sinus passages opened. Had no problems until moving to TX last year. Last year & this year have intermittent periods of constant, dull pain/headache behind right ear area, not quite to the back of the neck. The whole back right side hurts. I went and had a follow up CT scan & scope up the nose by the military. Told sinuses still open & look good. I have no vision changes, no nausea. My right ear is very slow to clear when I try. Periodically I have gunk in the back of my throat. Taking decongestants provide the most relief, but not full relief. Allegra makes my nose bleed. Had allergy tests, not much there either. Does this sound like sinus congestion and please tell me how to relieve these symptoms. They are the worst Jan-Mar and Jul-Sep. Thank you very much.

I am not a sinus specialist, you may wish to ask an ears nose throat doctor. Without more information, I cannot be certain, but I would want to exclude a headache disorder. Tension headaches can cause pain in this location, and an irritation of one of the occipital or auricular (ear) nerves could also cause pain in this location. A consultation with a neurologist may help to sort this out. Good luck.
