Could dental work have caused GN?

Could dental work have caused GN?

It began mid 2008 before i was getting married i decided to have my front teeth straightened, i went to my dentist who told me i had a gum infection that would have to be treated first, He told me due to this infection some of the bone in my jaw had gone and that my gums would recead after treatment with the hygenist. The first appointment with the hygeneist involved her inserting a tool down each tooth below the gum line to find out how much bone had gone, after that they were my teeth were thoroughly clean on several occassions, i was on a course of anti biotics, then she inserted some anti biotic tabs in the gum line. It was then i began to have the twinges, (before any teeth straightening prceedure began) It started when i was eating, it was a strange twinge on the top of my head at first but then the pain came down the right side of my tounge. I have been put on 900m of gabapentin which at first seemed to help but it is back now and it doesn't seem to do anything! I am waiting for another refereal for a scan!!
Please help!!!!

I don't know why they're going to do a scan.  All they have to do is X-ray your teeth again, and I'd bet my bottom dollar you got a little cavity in one of your upper teeth that is making a nerve fire off and hurt like that.  See, to get gum disease, food gets lodged in your teeth and eats away at the gum AND tooth.  Also could be one of your teeth has moved around a little bit from the whole cleaning process, and it now pushes or tugs on a nerve that it didn't used to, in which time usually will make that go away.  The gabapentin you're on sometimes needs to be upped in dose, until it reaches a plateau of comfort, but I should think they'd put you on something stronger instead, since this is all short-term.

One time I got a shot very badly given in my upper gumline, and to this day a little spot on the side of my nose is numb and the occasional twinge as you describe shoots up the mid-front of my face.  I've gotten used to it over time, I think she literally "hit a nerve."  Get your teeth X-rayed again, the upper part where the pain seems to be coming from.  If it comes up clear, then have them change meds if it's really painful, and follow whatever plan of action they want to do to fix it, but ASK them what ARE they thinking is going on, you need to be informed.

You can use a toothpaste that will de-sensitize teeth in the meantime, might help a little.  Also, you can get the spice cloves and hold it in your mouth in that spot for five minutes, and it'll also numb the pain for several hours.  But unless it's a cavity, I think it will go away after a while.  So, ask for an X-ray of the area, just like regular tooth X-rays, to see if you've got a cavity or broke or splintered a tooth or whatever.  It's cheaper than a scan and might save you the trouble of waiting and going thru all that.

Hiya! Thanks for your reply!
The reason why i'm going for the scan is that when it started i did go back to the dentist thinking it could be an absess (abscess) or a cavity so they did several test checking for sensitivity with hot and cold, checked my teeth thoroughy and also did x-rays and nothing showed up!!! Sorry I should've mentioned that before!!!! It was my dentist who originally refered me to the neurologist due to the pain i was describing! However i will take your advice and get another x-ray done and see if anything shows up! :)
