Could it be caused by my Lupus?

by hairgal, Sep 30, 2008 09:30PM
I am a 30 year old female who was recently dianosed with Lupus. I have been experiencing numbness in the right side of my face and tongue for about a year and a half. I've been told it could be some problems I have with my neck. I have had these problems for a lot longer than the nubness so I am not convinced. Could it be part of the Lupus?
Could I have had a stroke? I  have not been able to see a nuerologist yet.

Hi,

Thanks for writing in.
One side facial numbness and tongue numbness can be due to involvement of nerves like facial nerve and trigeminal nerve.
Lupus is an autoimmune connective tissue disorder which can cause neuropathy and symptoms of one sided facial numbness and tongue numbness.
Stroke also cannot be ruled out. Especially if you have a risk factor for stroke. It is important to seek a neurologist’s opinion on this.
