Could tip toe walking as a child cause knee and other joint pain later in life

My daughter, who is now 22 years old, is complaining of pain in her knees, elbows and shoulders.  The doctor has ruled out arthritis etc and doesn't know what can be causing the pain.  When she was a child she always walked on her tip toes - despite us trying to correct it!  I remember a shoe shop assistant telling us that my daughter was in danger of shortening the achilles tendon and that she would have "trouble later on".  Therefore, I'm wondering if the pain in her joints could be as a result of a shortened achilles tendon?

If the problem is not arthritis, then it is something else.  May be stating the obvious but I hope you don't have the type of doctor who has stopped looking just because the first thing they thought of they didn't find.  If so, maybe get another doctor?  Has your daughter been tested for connective tissue disorder (systemic lupus)?  Has she any other symptoms such as fevers, skin rashes, fatigue etc. etc.?  If you think that her posture may be a factor then a visit to a physiotherapist or osteopath may help.  Some people also use chiropractors, but be careful, a bad chiropractor can do a lot of damage, so choose carefully if you want to go down this route.  Don't let any doctor dismiss your daughter's symptoms just because she is young.  If it is bothering her, and you, then she needs attention, so she can go back to enjoying being young.  Diet can also affect joints, as can being very over or under weight.  Personally I recommend your first stop is to return to the doctor with questions about conditions like lupus, then onto a physiotherapist or osteopath.  Hope I've helped a bit.
