Cramping on my foot!!

Cramping on my foot!!

I have cramping sensations on my right foot going up to my calf. I do whatever it takes to not get the cramps since they are very painful. 15 months ago i was diagnosed with Sciatica. Had pain from my lower back all the way down to my right foot. Had Cramping, tightness, tingling and weakness on the right leg. 15 months later my back feels very healthy and my leg from the knee up feels great. I'm just having problems with my foot cramping leading up to the calf. I notice my problem gets more severe when i go to work in the cold (refrigerated werehouse). Im only able to stand for 4 hours then the crampy sensation begins and I start to limp or i just cant put any weight on my foot. What can I do to relieve me from this? I have been patient enough and am growing very irratble with my situation. Any advice would be very helpful!!!

Hi there. The various causes of foot cramps or tightening or painful contraction in the middle of foot are an over exerted foot poor foot circulation, lack of potassium, dehydration, pinched nerves due to electrical impulse from brain not reaching the muscles, alcohol or tobacco use, nutritional deficiency, etc. sciatica has been the previous culprit causing pain in back and thigh and leg cramps. This could be pinched nerve in the leg or foot. treatment would include holding the foot slowly in position where the cramp disappears, NSAIDs to relieve the cramp, foot elevation to waist level, soak in warm water, moist heat, wrap in elastic bandage, bed rest to hasten healing, and a orthopaedician consultation followed by a neurologist’s office visit. Hope this helps. Take care.

It may be lack of posassium, however the primary cause of a "charlie horse" in the foot is lack of circulating calcium.  The co-factor is often low levels of vitamin D-3. Because there are no contraindications try 5,000 IU of vitamin D3 and a couple of glasses of milk a day.
