Cure for epilepsy?

Cure for epilepsy?

Hi,
My boy friend was into drugs mainly marijuana and hash. Once he consumed a lot of sleeping pill, his body started shaking and he fell down he regained conscious after few minutes and was absolutely normal after that. After two years the same thing happened again and he was again under an influence of some drug. He took regular medicines prescribed for epilepsy for 2 years during this time once he had traveled over night and when he got back he was working on his laptop when he again had the same attack (He was not under the influence of any drug). Recently after  stopping the medicines for 3 years he again had a same seizure, he didn't have any drug but was traveling for 8 hours at night he was watching TV for 2-3 hours after the drive he slept for 6-7 hours and after this he had a seizures. He has been smoking pot and hash and also had alcohol on weekends. He has now given up everything the doctor has prescribed him Valance 750mg medicine to begin with the doctor has also told him that he needs to have medicines life long. Please help is there any permanent cure?? by which he doesn't have to take medicines life long and can also lead a normal life.. please help... incase you have any questions please feel free to ask..... thank you for your help.

Hello Dear,

Epilepsy is generally regarded as not curable, although some academic centers do report success with stereotactic surgery in cases where traditional therapy has failed.  Epilepsy, however, can be controlled, most commonly by antiepileptic medications.

The possibility of reducing seizure attacks would ultimately depend on how efficacious the antiepileptic drug is .

As with many chronic conditions, maintaining overall health is an important step in controlling epilepsy. Sleep deprivation is a powerful trigger of seizures. Be sure he  gets adequate rest every night, and make a conscious effort that he  eats a balanced diet, exercise and manage stress effectively.
Excessive alcohol consumption may trigger seizures.
