Day and night foot and leg cramps

I'm from Portugal, and I've been suffering from cramps since 3 years ago. I've done a muscle biopsy, an exam with electric choques (electromiogram?) and blood analysis (lost count of them). I've been pushed from doctor to doctor, no one seems to know what I have. Severe cramps (leg and foot), day and night. The biopsy sugested metabolic myopathy but was not conclusive. Magnesium, potassium, etc are Ok. No history in the family. No hormone problems. No other symptoms. But I can't squat down, can't stand on tip toes, can't do exercise, can't walk on sand, can't do a bunch of things (and this is affecting my work, I'm a civil engineer). The cramps are either very strong or weak but repeated (I can have cramps on both legs at the same time). Foot cramps can get to 15 cramps on a row. L-carnitine had effect for one or two weeks but then came back to the same.Is this a muscle metabolic disorder? Should I look for other causes?

If you can, get a second opinion.  Sometimes a fresh eye can help.  I found a website that might be helpful to you in the meantime:

My doctor seems to insist on BFS (benign fasciculation sindrome), although I have NO fasciculations. So she doesn't care much and gives me Carnitine and Vitamin C. Wich have no effect. Recomended more sugar (always having a candy or chocolate) and to stop exercise if cramps show again. More sugar and no exercise seams a great treatment...

i have these same cramps.  cramps so severe that my feet start to seize and my toes curl back.  I have noticed a correlation between taking insulin shots and their arrival.  I am not sure if i am allergic to insulin or if it is the rapid dropping of blood glucose levels.  Has anyone else recognized a pattern of cramping due to rapid drop in blood glucose levels?
