Dealing with cerebellar degeneration

Dealing with cerebellar degeneration

I was diagnosed with cerebellar degeneration 10 yrs ago. Since then I have had 2 more opinions along with MRIs and other testing, all confirming this diagnosis.

After falling several times, and a couple of fractures, I am now using a walker to get around.

My question is, is this it? I have been told by three neurologists that - it is what it is - I need to know if there may be something out there that can help.
Thankyou so much for your time, Donna

Thanks for using the forum. I am happy to address your questions, and my answer will be based on the information you provided here. Please make sure you recognize that this forum is for educational purposes only, and it does not substitute for a formal office visit with a doctor.

Without the ability to examine and obtain a history, I can not tell you what the exact cause of the symptoms is. However I will try to provide you with some useful information.

There are several causes of cerebellar degeneration. Most are progressive neurodegenerative process without a known cure. Some types of ataxias, however, can be treated with vitamin E or B12.

Do you know which type of cerebellar degeneration you have? You may be able to work with your neurologist to identify a clinical trial if appropriate.

Thank you for this opportunity to answer your questions, I hope you find the information I have provided useful, good luck.
