Deep brain stimulation, essential tremor, age

by John__0__0, Jun 08, 1998 12:00AM
My mother-in-law is in her mid-seventies, healthy, fit and sharp, except that essential tremors have made her a social recluse.  Would her age be a limitation to deep brain stimulation? (Medications have not been helpful.)  She lives in Muncie, Indiana.  Can you recommend a physician she could consult with about deep brain stimulation?

Dear John:
At the Cleveland Clinic we have  an active program of deep brain stimulation for essential tremor. The program is headed by Dr Erwin Montgomery who is nationally reknown in this field.
If you are interested I would suggest that you contact his office for more information. The phone number of the Cleveland Clinic is 1 800 CCF CARE.
Good luck
