Diagnosed with peripheral neuropathy . . . .

Hello MedHelp members,

I am a 23 year old male who was recently diagnosed with peripheral neuropathy.  I am pretty worried that it is being caused by something more serious and I am here to get some opinions from others who may be going through the same thing.  A little background:

About a month ago I began to experience a tingling sensation in my left hand, specifically around my left pinky finger and left ring finger.  It was similar to the sensation one gets when their hand "falls asleep".  Over the next couple of days the sensation spread from my left hand up into my left arm then onto my right hand and right arm.  It continued onto my feet, specifically my toes at first, the up into my lower legs.  As of two weeks ago I have begun to experience the same sensation in my face and upper back.  It never hurts, but the sensation is very uncomfortable.

I have been checked for diabetes and do not have it.  I have had my thyroid checked as well as a basic batch of blood tests and they showed no reason to be concerned.  I currently have blood work being done to check for vitamin deficiencies and should have those results in the next few days.  I have had a CAT scan done on my head and it came back negative for abnormalities.  I also had a chest X-ray taken and it also was negative for abnormalities.

I am scheduled to see a neurologist on January 12th.  I know that until I receive a full diagnosis from a trained medical professional there is no way to be certain what is causing this.  Still, I am very worried as the symptoms are increasing, especially the numbness in my face.  I often feel like my mind is cloudy and I am feeling a bit more clumsy every day.
