Difficulting Eating & Laryngitis

On June 1, '09 I started having Laryngitis & by the 26th of of June I started having problems swallowing food.  Been to several Doctors for CT & PET Scans & MRI's, no indication of Cancer at this time.  What the Doctors say that only one vocal cord is working properly & the other one is soft and not functioning.  I've been told they could try and inject the soft vocal cord with a Botox type injection to make it a little firmer/larger & may help me be able to talk.  My question is could the injection possibly numb this area and cause greater problems with swallowing food.  Talking is important but being able to eat is more of a concern to me at this point time.  I'm limited to eating, chili, potato soup, & ground up roast beef dipped in juice to be able to swallow it without, choking which I also do a lot of.  Would appreciate more knowledge on the injection procedure & side effects.   Open to any and all suggestions regarding this issue.

Thanks in advance for your coop
