Diffuse cerebral atrophy (MRI)

Hello,

Recently my dear uncle (age about 64 years) got an epilepsy attack.
We have done the tests suggested by Dr.

In the MRI Report following in mentioned:
"Diffuse Cerebral Atrophy with Focal Gliosis at left temporal Cortex (Old ischemic insult)"

Want to know what exactly this suggest, can someone provide input.

Thanks a lot!

Hi,

Thanks for writing in.
Diffuse cerebral atrophy and focal gliosis indicate brain damage. Some amount of cerebral atrophy occurs normally with increasing age. In your uncle’s case age and ischemic damage have contributed to cerebral atrophy.
Ischemic damage occurs due to blockade of small blood vessels in the brain which is common in hypertensives, diabetics, smokers and chronic alcoholics.
Hope this helps!

Hello,

Thanks a lot for providing info.

I would like to know what lifestyle do you suggest in this scenario.
What should be done/ not done so that this doent gets worse (than this).

Thanks a lot!
