Digoxin Toxicity and lack of oxygen

Elderly father recently admitted to hospital from ortho rehab facility and diagnosed with Digoxin toxicity.  Released back to rehab yesterday but profound changes in mental state.  Originally we were told this was due to the Digoxin in his system, but now I am wondering if there is nuerological damage due to low O2 levels from suppressed heart rate.  HR was at 30 and O2 saturation at 70% upon entering ER.  If so, is this permanent?  He is also on hemodialysis.

Hi,
The alteration in mental state could be due to Digoxin toxicity. The main cause of Digoxin toxicity is the improper kidney function . Your father’s kidney function was impaired . So the drug which was being administered was not excreted from the system properly thus leading to toxicity . . Close monitoring of the drug levels and salt balances in the body and administering antidotes can reduce the toxicity . After recovery the patient can resume normal activities and is free from the toxic effects  . Hope this helps you . Take care and regards !
