Disk compression

Posted By Katie on April 19, 1999 at 09:17:08
Yes, I am 41 year old female with a recent mri results showing a extrusion of disk at c4-5.  The disk is compressing against the cord showing mild deformity.  My symptoms are weekness in the upper body with severe muscle spasms, with reflex in my knees, quite jumpey,  Discomfort while chewing, Tingling and burning in my legs,  Pain worse in the left side.  The pain I know could be worse as I have a high tolerance.  Also findings of bulging disk at l3-4 and spondyolosis and l5-s1.  As well as dengerative disk disease.  I saw a specialist and want to do micro surgery to cut disk away from cord.  I am scared and wonder if the pros and cons outweigh one anoter.  I know with further injury could be a lot worse situation.  I am very active lift a lot and do what needs done.  I know pain over life time will get progressivly worse l3-4 and l5-31  so I try not to limit my activity.  Since mri findings I fear a worse compression and c4-c5.  Is it better to trim that disk away rather then take a chanc?  Thanks for any help or information.  Katie
