Dizzy spells metallic taste in mouth PLEASE HELP

After a serious road traffic accident in 2006 have suffered with neurological symptoms ever since.
I go 'dizzy' randomly - could be asleep in bed or sat at my desk at work completely random, then suddenly I get horrific pain in my head like an immense pressure like I am inhaling water. My body temperature rockets, my face does red, my left hand goes numb, I feel sick & my mouth fills with saliva. This lasts for 2-5minutes and I can get several episodes a day (8 is the most I have experienced) for about 5-7days then I can be fine for weeks. When I have a spell of this I am left with an awful metallic taste in my mouth 24 7 for about 2 weeks, with this I cannot taste food very well and tea tastes disgusting .

Please any ideas or info would be so much appreciated.

Losing smell/taste is unlucky but better than losing sight.  I guess that is the way we should look at it.  Still it is easy to say and tough to endure which we all been going through.

Shell06:  I live in U.S.A and guess you are in U.K. Neck can cause lot of problems.  Yes and can be disabling which I came to realize lately and no tests shown any problem.  So don't count on any tests and it may or may not show the problem.

I have been running around doctors/med/therapies and I finally found some relief with Trigger Point therapy, myofascial pain release, cranio sacral therapy etc., but the effect doesn't last long.  If your neck is an issue there are quite a few options I learnt.  Trigger point injections, Botox injections, Prolotherapy just to name a few.  Very unfortunate the specialists I have seen never looked at my neck and the related symptoms.

CSF leak can be seen in MRI and based on the symptoms you have.  you can request your neurologist or any doctor to take a look  and if they don't answer demand for all the test or change the doctor.

I had a TBI in Dec 10 and it left me with no taste or smell and a metallic or burnt phantom taste or smell. My neuro doc said I tore the first and 12th cranial nerve and that I was lucky that that was all that was wrong.

Hi

I had a severe blow to my head in the road traffic accident, and it is since then that I have suffered. I suffered severe whiplash I couldn't walk very well, I could not lift my head where my neck was so badly bruise.
The accident happened as an on coming vehicle that was overtaking hit me head on & then a delivery van went in the back of my car.
I have had an MRI scan and EEG - all appeared normal. So the problem I have now is that my Neurologist has given up trying to investigate. I have been told the only thing to do now is to trial and error different drugs. I have tried various drugs that are normally used to treat Migraine symptoms such as Atenolol, Amitriptyline & I am currently taking Pizotifen. I have not found any success with the drugs. Did you go to NHS or private? Do you mind me asking what doctor and where? If I have to I will travel to see someone who might show an interest.
Immediately after the accident and for a few months after I had a constant thirst - I was waking up during the night drinking 2 pints of water. At this point my GP carried out tests to check my pituitary gland was producing the correct hormones & again the tests appeared normal.
There has been much speculation but no real answers to help find treatment. Some have suggested that the injuries to my neck and back could be causing this – another neurologist suggested that it could be damage to the lining of my brain which he thought would heal within 4 years. So really I am clueless! In my desperate state to seek help I have been to see an osteopath – don’t think this helped, she claimed it was down to damage in my neck and said my scull needed realigning.
The car accident was 2006 and I am still suffering, if anything the symptoms have got worse and more painful.
Would CSF show up on an MRI scan?

Thank you so much for your comments.

Is yours a head injury?  In that case go to a doctor and ask for an MRI.  They can also test for CSF leak when you get that metallic taste.  I had a mild traumatic brain injury and I get that taste and that is because my olfactory system/brain had damaged.  I do suffer with constant dizziness which disabled me at this point.
