Hi there, few years back I had CT scan done which revealed a cyst between my frontal lobes.
This was quite large 4 1/2cm high and 2 1/2cm deep, visiting a neurologist he said "I will send you for an MRI it could be a skin tag or something like that which would cause concern or if its what he thinks it is an .arachnoid cyst then we should just forget about it.
I went and had the MRI and got the report, as the results were conclusive of an arachnoid cyst and that I was scheduled to fly out from Australia to london I just forgot about it and got on the plane. (haven't followed up)
I can remember every word on the report and seeing that my symptoms have continued its still got me wondering.
The report stated that there was scalloping of the inner table which is consitant with its long standing natureNature-throid Natures tears, It also stated that there was a mass effect... after reading up on the internet it sounds like a mass effect is something i should be concerned with???
i have tried reading up on the internet and have found no other case of an arachnoid cyst in the same position as me.. they all seem to be in the temperol lobe...
Does anyone have any information as to whether an arachnoid cyst causing mass effect needs treatment?????
Does anyone have any information as to whether an arachnoid cyst causing mass effect needs treatment?????
See pic for MRI scan..
Arachnoid cysts are known to occur in the frontal lobes, but are rare. They present with the frontal lobe syndrome.
According to Kotil et al, only 13 cases of interhemispheric arachnoid cysts have been reported.
Here's a link to an article which shows the good effect of surgery for arachnoid cysts.
