Do fiberglass skull plates break down over time?

by Kim600, May 03, 2008 12:05AM
My 71 year old father has been having some behavioral changes for the last 6-7 months. He had his anterior skull replaced with a fiberglass plate 35 years ago, and fat was also removed from his abdomen & used some how in this procedure. He was told that the surgery was experimental at the time. I'm wondering if it is possible that this material could be breaking down and causing this problem? Do you think a MRI would be appropriate, and/or some labs?

This discussion is related to cranial plates.
