Dripping wet feeling felt inside head.

Hello,

When I was 15, I was laying on my back playing my gameboy, when suddenly, I felt something like water trickling down the INSIDE of my head. This was NOT something I felt on my scalp, but again INSIDE of my head where someone will feel a headache. Of course, I was all nerves, crying hysterically, asking my sister to call my mom because I thought the worse was about to happen to me. To make a long story short, my mom took me to the emergency room, where the doctors performed a CAT scan on my head. After getting out of the CAT machine, they showed me a picture of my skull revealing that had sinusitis. I asked them what was the wet feeeling I was feeling, and they said it was mucus draining. So they put me on antibiotics for like 30 days or something? And I still continued to feel that wet trickling feeling of water running in the inside of my head. There is no pain associated with it, but utter fear and worry.

As silly as it sounds, I never went back to the doctor because I am already a hypochondriac, and feared the worst as a second opinion. Seven years later at 22, I continue to feel this 'wet trickly feeling' in the inside of my head frequently not lasting many minutes. My temple also twitches, which frightens the hell out of me, as well as twitches felt in other areas of my head. My primary doctor said, if something seriouly was wrong with me, I would have known by now. I am not reassured, and on the verge of going to the doc to see if something wrong. To feel like water is dripping inside the head is abnormal, and never heard of? What could this possibly be?

I cannot give you a clinical diagnosis over the internet, unforuntately, so I cannot substitute for a formal medical opinion.

A common cause of a dripping feeling inside the head is the 'post-nasal' drip associated with sinusitis, often with a bad taste in the mouth, sometimes with tenderness of the sinuses. I'm not sure where exactly in the head you are having the feeling. You might need to see an ENT doc for management of chronic sinusitis.

Without other features of headche - head pain, nausea etc, this does not seem like a primary headache syndrome. Dripping in the nose or ear can be from a spinal fluid leak - over time this can beassciated with infection or headache, and results in a clear discharge from the nose or ear.
Temple twitching is usally from muscle tension or over contraction can can contribute to headache, especially if isolated to the head muscles. If it becomes more widepread it may warrant furhter investigation.
The fact that it has not changed much over time would suggest a more benign disorder.

Your doctors may want to consider an MRI of the brain, as this would provide both a sinus evaluation and reassure you regarding the rest of the brain

hello i posted sometime in december.  for quite a long time I too have fluid draining in the inside my head. IT then fills up my ears.  So i know excaatly what you are talking about and feeling.  I also have constant headaches.  I was being checked for a CSF leak but nothing showed.  I still think my radiology reports are being read wrong as I know there is something wrong with me.  maybe you can be check for a csf leak.  It is when there is a problem with the lining of the sinuses and occasionlay fluid that sourrounds the brain can leak into the sinus area which Is what I know I have.  I just need someone to find it.  GOod luck

Thank you for replying. I was so anxious to see what anyone would say! Yes, when I was searching on this, I had NO results to come up for awhile, but then I read about a CSF leak. I don't know how dangerous it is, but I am going to get another scan one of these days because like you say, you feel as if there is something really wrong. It is quite frightening, yet I do not experience any kind of headaches or pain with it. Just feel like cold water spilling down and across the inside of my head. I also have this feeling, but i have a Chiari Malformation and had decompression surgery a year ago, that is when the feeling started, yes it can be a CFS leak, this is a spinal fliud leak, and if it goes on untreated it can be VERY dangerous, you need an MRI with contrast to find it, or the problem that may be causing it, this is the only way it can be found.

thank you for your reply. See thats the thing. I am now 22, and I havent seen anyone yet again! this absolutely terrifies me because....I don't know where all of this stuff comes from. It comes from the spine all the way up to the brain? Wow...I am really scared...

I am so silly-lol-I hadn't seen the doctors response until after yours Giggles....Thank you Doc and everybody who answered. I am more ressured with the chronic sinusitis as a possibility...but...getting another test done is going to really, really be scary. I am going to have to get this checked out soon. Thank yall.

P.S.-The dripping feeling is felt mostly on the left side of my head and can expand sometimes, but mostly on the middle left side of my head with the dripping stopping all the way down the back of my head....sounds spooky huh?

Does the dripping sensation actually interfere with your life or do you just worry about what it is?   An MRI of the brain (like the doctor said) is a non invasive 30 minute test that should set your mind at ease.

I worry about what it is---but, from these replies, I am kinda at ease, and still nervous to get a test. I would hope it is a  sinus problem rather than something else. It interferes with my life in a way that it has been going on for seven years, but it comes intermittently, and cracks my nerves once its happening, and then when it's over, I think, Why do I keep feeling this ****? and why must I drip in my head? because nobody else does.(that I know of)

I understand your concern, I had the very same feeling and still do. I saw an ENT and he determined it was Post Nasal Drip.

I know it feels really odd, Now I am not a doctor, but I think that if you had a "spinal fluid leak" from the age of 15-22...well I am pretty sure you would have been dead long ago.

My post nasal drip comes and goes, it depends on many things, seasons of the year, what part of the country I am in, and how dusty my room gets...

lol So clean your room and under your bed, vaccume and dust often, that may help.

Although I still need another evaluation, it is SO good to know that I am finally hearing comments of people who felt what I felt! I was thinking like oh goodness, I have one of those odd conditions like only one in a million get because everyone would have these surprising reactions when I told them I drip through my head. I was recently diagnosed with CM and have heavy pressure/pulsation in my head (tinnitus and "heartbeat in both ears), my head bobs when I'm trying to sit still, it feels like someone is pulling my hair all of the time, base of my skull burns and my ears drip throughout the day.  I suggested to my Dr. that I thought I might have CSF leak and he treated me like I was crazy.  The leaking has been going on for more than a year.  I also have 2 herniated discs and a syrinx so it didn't seem so far fetched to me.  I can't get anyone to explain the pulsation and give me some kind of resolution.  It's driving me crazy.  I don't sleep enough.  I'm losing vision in my right eys and my body feels like it's trembling/vibrating all of the time.  I had a CINE MRI that showed diminished posterior CSF flow and cerebellar tonsils abut foramen magnum.  I also have what I call "drop attacks" where I fall down without losing consciousness (I feel like I'm in a vortex)--no hydrocephalous. I am becoming physically weaker every day.  Does any of this sound familiar to you?  I'm desperate for answers and trying to plan my next move.  I need to find a Dr. who is well versed in this type of problem.

just read your post.  If you can tell I have similar symptons.  I also have ringinng in ears and the feeling of a heart beat in ears.  I also have the fluid draining problem  I cant seem to find anyone to help me let us know what you are being DX with maybe the rest of us will be helped someohow also.

WELL AT FIRST MY HEAD FELT LIKE LIQUID WAS DRAINING ON THE INSIDE OF MY HEAD, NOW THE INSIDE OF MY HEAD BURNS AND MAKES A BUZZING NOISE AND AT TIMES I GET DIZZY, I HAD BEEN TO A NEUROLOGIST AND HAD A MRI ABOUT 2 YEARS AGO WHERE THEY DISCOVERED I HAD A SMALL NODULE ON MY PITURITORY THAT WAS NON ACTIVE, I HAD ANOTHER ONE ABOUT 7 MONTS AGO WHERE THE MRI WAS NORMAL AND THE PITURITORY NODULE WAS GONE, BUT I AM STILL HAVING HEAD PROBLEMS, IS THERE ANYONE ELSE HAVING THESE SAME PROBLEMS, OH ALSO IT MAKES ME WEAK, AT TIMES I FEEL PINS AND NEEDLES AND HOT SENSATION IN MY FACE. I posted few times.   I constantly have fluid draining in my head, neck crakcling and tinnutus among a 24hour heachache.  I have been going to doctors for two years now and no one is helping they keep saying different things plus I need to see a therapist maybe its stress.  What they dont realize its the doctors giving the stress.  Having a heache 24 hours and fluid draining in the head is not stress.  I know what its like to have a normal head and mine isnt.  But as rare as it is I have seen thru this site other people having similar symptons and having no help.  If you get this my direct email is:  ***@**** if you want to email me directly.  Its funny  I had a nodule in the same area it showed up on three different exams - I finally had a doctor notice it, though he insisted it couldnt cause my problem. Maybe is some rare cases it does.  My piturart level was even raised.  Anyway he dicides to send me for another MRI becasue the  others were older, get this it wasnt there either though my smptonss persist and are somewhat worse.  My only conlsuion when I was looking at the films (my gut tells me I am right) is that each radiolgist/techinican takes different slices and I beleive they can totally take off slices or not the right slice missing the original picture taken that shows something.  Though doctors still disagree.  Not that I know what I am looking at, but see similarties and differences is not too hard to do on films.

add me to your list of people with the drippy head syndrome, i only get it once in a while and it will feel like a drop of water has rolled down my head but there wont be anything there, sometimes iot feels like a spider crawling down my scalp, also i occasionally have clear fluid that will come from my nose and ears, very wattery not a nasal discharge, i also have tingling in my hands, arms and legs plus very weird feelings in my brain like something is short circuitibg, I had many mri, ct scan, blood work, dr said its nothing but my last vmri said i have a few small t-2 bright signal foci in the subcortail white matter, i wonder if this means MS. Any one know?
