Drooping eyelids
What is the cause of drooping eyelids and slurred speech in an 85 year old heart patient after having a high fever of 102?

Hi there.  The presence of infection and the fever itself may cause some weakening of the muscles which may cause small muscles to weaken, such as those controlling the eyelids. The slurring of speech may be brought about by some form of delirium also from the infection or fever.  More serious conditions to consider would include a stroke or cerebrovascular accident as a cause.  It is best that he be evaluated by his doctors.  Regards and God bless.
