Dysautonomia & Beta Blockers side effects

by redsox123, Jan 20, 2009 03:27PM
I was in an auto accident several years ago and have been diagnose an enclosed head injury, chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, and autonomic dysreflexia (dysautonomia) and POTS. I have two questions. My first is that the temperature has been swinging from 57 to 21 daily highs from one day to the next. My head has been very foggy and I have had great difficulty concentrating. I know it sounds stupid, but if you feel my neck it almost feels like it is filled with fluid (my husband's words, not mine). He will rub my neck, and it will help, but then, the next day or two and it is back and I am all foggy again.I have also felt incredibly tired and had no energy. Is their any correlation to the weather?

Second question: Beta blockers. I eat healthy and exercise daily. About 2 years ago I completely cut soda out of my diet and only eat the occasional sweets(birthdays) and tried walking more, even though it kills my head to do so. Anyway, I couldn't lose any weight. I cut out bread- nothing. I know that I am not overweight, but I couldn't lose anything! This past September I asked my neurologist and he told me that my beta blockers make my metabolism all but nonexistent. I am incredibly frustrated. He even tried putting me on topomax (topamax) (100mg) because I have had shooting pains in my head since the accident and bad pain in my suboccipital region and he thought it would help speed up my metabolism. WIN-WIN right? Wron. Helped the shooting pains. Haven't lost a pound! Is there ANYTHING I can do?
