EEG shows brain slowing

My 11 year old son was born 5 weeks early, has a vp shunt and a history of seizures after being on ECMO (heart lung bypass machine) when only 19 hours old.  He has been having difficulty with headaches and his school work is declining again (he is in 6th and does 3rd grade work in special needs classes).  We took him back to his neurologist and they did several tests to rule out seizures and found brain slowing but no seizures.  This is the second time in 3 years that he has had this result.  Is this a major concern and is there anything we can do (therapy, more special classes) to help him with this?  What exactly does brain slowing mean?  And is there a chance that this is going to get worse and possibly need adult care when he is older?

Hello i'm 29 years old and I have severe migraines. I don't have seizures or anything. I just recently went to the doctor and the dr told me that my brain is slowing. I really don't get what their saying is wrong and i was wondering could you please better explain what this mean. I don't get enough sleep at all and I have a headache everyday or other day. Could you please help?

Hi.

Brain slowing is generally seen in patients with brain disease, mental retardation, and brain injury. At present, there is no certainty whether his condition would improve or deteriorate. This would be better assessed by a neurodevelopmental pediatrician.

I would advise you to continue with the special needs classes and the regular consultations to monitor his condition. When did he last had a seizure episode?

Please update us on any further developments regarding his condition.
