Elavil and ringing in the ears

Elavil and ringing in the ears

I was prescribed by a Neurologist Elavil, which I took for about 18 months, for my headches.

I stopped taking about a year ago it as I did not see any improvements. The RINGING IN MY EARS continue and sometimes is accompanied with "pulses" during the night.

Is there anything I can do to stop the ringing in my ears?

Please advise.

Thank you.

Sorry to hear about that, I was just prescribed that and I wasn't told that to be a side effect.
What was the dosage you were taking?
I tried taking the medication for two days and stopped because I felt very funny from it. I took it right before I would go to bed and it made me feel like my heart was beating to slow I would have numbness and tingling in my feet.

Do you know anything about that?

Did you start to experience the ringing in the ears when you started the med.  Sounds like Tinititus to me. A Ear doc can tell you for sure.  If that is it.  You have it for life.  No cure.  BUT, you do learn to live with it and after awhile you really don't notice it.  However, often in later years, it can be followed with some hearing loss.
Most of your meds in this field will always make you feel worse before you feel better.  Never think the first day or two that you pop a happy pill,  that you are going to feel happy.  They all have side effects.  It usually takes about 2 weeks for the meds to reach that level of working, sometimes less, sometimes more.  And often, it makes your condition worse, before it makes you better.  VERY common and very normal.  It is when the side effects continue to worsen and never get better that the med may not be fror you. 3 or 4 days is not nearly enough time to know if a med is going to work unless the side effects become that bad or a allergic reaction, or suicidal thoughts occur.  ALWAYS talk to a doctor.
