Enbrel & possible MS?

by seedoubleyou, Feb 12, 2007 12:00AM
I am a 42 y.o. female with psoriatic arthritis.  My disease was under good control w/sulfasalazine + NSAIDS until last year following a severe knee injury/surgery & subsequent development of Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy.  This led to a flare of my PsA.
In October, I was started on Enbrel, 50mg/weekly.  After 6 injections, I began exhibiting Lhermitte's sign.  Rheumatologist instructed me to d/c Enbrel, due to potential links w/MS.  15 days after my last Enbrel injection, the "buzzing" in my spine w/neck flexion ceased.
Rheumatologist suggested I restart Enbrel to see if "buzzing" would resume.  Meanwhile, he ordered brain & c-spine MRIs, w/ & w/o contrast to check for demylination.
Had MRIs 10 days ago and received results via mail.  C-spine, normal.  Brain MRI showed "scattered subcortical punctate hyperintensities on T2/FLAIR, nonspecific."
What might these findings indicate, and what should be my next step??  I am a nursing student yet am uncertain whether these findings could be significant.
Thank you so much for your insight.

Ah, sorry to read this. You must feel bad! I do not know much about your medical questions and English is not my first language.
I have a similar experience.  After using Enbrel for 6 months for Spondylitis Ankylopoetica I lost taste and feeling in my mouth.  I stopped Enbrel immediately and never used it since. The symptoms disappeared, but other showed up. I started walking like I had too much to drink, lost the feeling in my right arm, and more. MRI showed several laesies in the white matter and two month ago I was DX-ed MS.
See www.enbrel.com for a warning about Enbrel and MS!!
