Encephalomalacia & gliosis

I understand that because of my brother's brain hemmorrhage about 10 years ago he now has encephalomalacia and gliosis, I want to know since you are unable to get rid of these problems but instead only treat its symptoms is his condition going to worsen? Does the encephalomalacia and gliosis continue to spread or grow, or is it just damage that is there and will not increase but still cause many symptoms such as headaches?  What other symptoms will he or may he experience besides headaches, dizziness, insomnia?????  Please help.

Hi,

Thanks for writing in.

Encephalomalacia can progress with time. The degree of progress is not known.

The symptoms will depend upon the part of the brain involved. Symptoms can be loss of reflexes, numbness, loss of cognitive functions of the brain, seizures, slurred speech etc.

Effective rehab therapy under a trained instructor will help.
