Epilepsy got worse from medication?

My 13 y/o daughter was given a medication to help control a kind of epilepsy that is visual in nature but ever since she started the medication  she only gets the symptoms when her eyes are shut closed.  (She only used to get her symptoms when her eyes were open). Why is this happening?

The symptom is she used to see a yellow or white colored light flashing on and off in one eye then it would move to the other eye (almost like turning on and off a light switch at a fast speed).  She used to only see this with her eyes open and now ever since she started the medication, she  only see this when she closes her eyes.

Well, if her seizures are more frequent or worse along with her eyes being closed, then her medicine needs adjusting.  And in any case, just that she's still having seizures is no good at all.  The whole point of meds is to stop seizing for as long as possible, as seizures have a bad effect on a person.  She needs to go back to her prescribing doc and get something different for her epilepsy or at the very least a higher dose.  She should not have seizures hardly at all with the right medicines, whether her eyes are open or not, and that means no more than perhaps twice a year, if that, but you can discuss all that with her doc, as I am no expert.  I just had a family member who had it, they took phenobarbitol, an older medication.
