Episodes of difficulty walking

I have peripheral neuropathy from being a diabetic for over 12 years.  I started to have episodes of not being able to walk. These spells as I call them go from being normal walking to a day or two of some staggering walking to about a day of not being able to walk without help.  They then go back to a day or two of some staggering back to normal for a few days. I do sometimes have a problem leaning to one side after walking for a length of time. I am not sure if the neuropathy is related to these episodes.  I do also have some small vessel damage in my brain, that I was told was probably from the diabetes. My question is what kind of specialist should I see to get a definitive diagnosis and some help for what is going on.  Thanks.
