Exposure to mold

by mindybis, Feb 01, 2008 08:25AM
I was exposed to toxic mold in my private practice office for two years. The mold is staccybutrus and from what i have read it appears to be a very toxic substance. I now have symptoms ranging from nueropathy, nerve damage, autoimmune/thyroid problem, anxiety, and sleep problems. These conditions did not present themselves until after the exposure to the mold. I left the office. Some of my symptoms got better others are still in the process of being determined what the treatment can be. The thyroid developed nodules which are too small for biopsy but are being watched. I am not diabetic or even prediabetic. I was wondering if there is any literature i can read that talks about whether the conditions i have developed could be caused or aggravated by the mold exposure. All of these conditions are in a wait and see mode and it is very frustrating because i have not been able to get a specific treatment to help alleviate the symptoms. If there is anything you can suggest it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I sooooooooooooooooo can relate to your story! I'M LIVING THE SAME NIGHTMARE!!!!!!  My daughter and I were both effected by the mold and as a result we have Hashimoto's disease. We are both prediabetic, our hormones are off, adrenals are not right, and many other things that give us daily symptoms . A Holistic doctor. has been trying to help us-all other Dr.'s think I'm coo-coo. I've been looking for people who have been sickened by the mold and would love to hear from you. Please respond!

My family was exposed to mold in our home due to a flood we had in the basement. I gave birth to a baby boy approximately 3 months beofore the 1st flood.  My son was sick almost immediately after the 1st flood.  I was diagnosed with Hosimoto's 5 months after the 1st flood. My TSH was 92.8 and I was very sick.  My husband and son developed pulmonary issues.  My sons issues were far worse as he spent the first 2 years on breathing treatments and in and out of the hospital.  It was discovered that we had Stachybotres among many other forms of mold throughout our home.  We have since been through 5 mold remediations & renovated the HVAC system to include air cleaners and an UV light system which is believed to clean 89% of germs in the air.  My son and husband's pulmonary issues have subsided for the most part.  While my hosimotos is being controlled by 88mg of synthroid, I still suffer from exhaustion and a few other things I'm not yet sure are related.  I would like to know if the Hosimotos is directly related to the mold.  Can you refer me to an Endocrinologist in my area who can discuss my symptoms and treatments available with me?
