Facial Numbness with DDD

I was diagnosed with Degenerative Disc Disease last year with discs bulging in my cervical and thorasic regions.  I also have shoulder and neck pain and numbness in my hands and arms.  I am going for Physical Therapy and that is helping.  

Recently, I began to have face numbness as well.  Everyone I have talked to told me that it is NOT related to my back issues.  But scans, blood work and MRI showed nothing wrong.  The MRI that I had for the Cervical issues did show a slight stenosis in my cervical region.  

I have found many forums where individuals with back issues, specifically with Degenerative Disc Disease (DDD) also have facial numbness.  Is it a coincidence?  Has any connection been made in the professional medical community?  

What else can I do to find out what is causing this numbness?

I am a relatively healthy 36 year old woman.  I don't take any prescriptions other than allergy meds.  I take a muli vitamin daily and fish oil.  I am not having any vision problems (although my eyes have been feeling strained, with some pressure and blood shot for the past three weeks).  I have not noticed any cognitive difficulties.  The face numbness has been going off and on for a few months now and mostly when I lie down.  It feels like novocane wearing off.
