Facial Spasms, Tight Jaw Muscles

For the past two months I have been experiencing tight jaw muscles and three times have turned my head while smiling and my muscles have spasmed.  I have been to the emergency room once due to the left side of my tongue going numb.  I was told it was probably a result of my wisdom tooth that was infected and I was having removed two days later.  I had the tooth removed a month ago and the only symptom that has gone away is the numb tongue.  I also have been having burning headaches for the same period of time at the crown of my head.  I have been to the doctor, but he thinks it's probably just due to my neck and back misalignment.  As the spasms become worse I am wondering if there could be a different cause?

without going to a dr...it is very difficult to guess....it can be a number of things....u may want to start with and endo or ENT dr and let them give u a dx....then if u have quesstions as to the type of treatment......we will be here to help and listen....

to alilee81 u said ur dr mentioned the possibility of a misalignment...have u had a MRI or x ray of the area.....???please get the tests and get the dx.....

I have the jaw pain...numbness in my face.....it's from my thyroid condition hashimotos...I have headaches, loss of balance and muscle tenderness and much more from chiari, spinal stinosos, and fibro...so u see how u need the dx to know where to look for relief. try to relax....

PS- TMJ- stands for the  temporomandibular joint- when there is a dysfunction in the joint it is referred to as TMJD.( I checked with my dentist-it's not my issue)

Good luck

I am having the exact same symptoms, and being a worrier, I assume the worst. (brain tumor, etc.) The burning headaches are very uncomfortable. I also have very sore jaws and neck as well.

I took a xanax and the symptoms subsided for a while, so maybe it's anxiety. I don't really feel anxious, so I'm not sure. That seems to be a catch-all diagnosis, and I'm sure if I went to a doctor, that's what they'd tell me without investigating further.

Somene suggested TMJ, not sure about that either.

If someone knows what this could be, please answer.
