Facial/ear pain, fullness in head

by 4649, Aug 27, 2009 02:01PM
I developed pretty severe pain in my right ear about two weeks ago.  I have had a low grade fever (99 - 99.6) for 2 weeks also.  I went to urgent care ( primary doctor not available) and was diagnosed with parotitis - inflamation (inflammation) (infection?) of the parotid/salivary gland, was put on antibiotics and referred to ENT.  I went to ENT two days later, still same symptoms, diagnosis was confirmed & he started prednisone - 6 day therapy.  After finishing the antibiotics and prednisone I returned to ENT for followup  - still having pain & low grade fever but most of swelling has reduced.  He recommended MRI of brain & IAC (internal auditory canal) and CT of neck - all test were negative - no abnormal findings.  I have feeling of fullness in my head, some numbness down right arm & leg, pain in neck, ear, face, head, still have low fever.  ENT says it is not an ENT problem and referred me to a neurologist who I cannot see for another week.  I do have a history of a pinched nerve on the right cervical area.  My family doctor cannot fit me in until next Monday - 5 more days.  What do I do?  Just wait it out?  I feel like I'm going crazy.  Any ideas?
