Thanks for the heads up on Lyrica, but I'm confined to drugs on my HMO's formulary.
I treated w/ pegylated interferon and ribavirin for Hepatitis C. I had no previous history of CNS problems or neuropathy before treatment.
Do you know if ultram is on the list?
I couldnt make it without it...my feet burn so badly it helps ALOT...it keeps the burning right under the surface verse full blown...It may not work for you ...but it has been a godsend for me...good luck!
I tried Neurontin...it made my head go numb...BUT I know lots who do great on it...
I just read your narrative about the hard road to diagnosis of MS. My heart goes out to you and I wish you all the luck in the world in your return to health. (Yes. Stated as strong fact, and not a wispy maybe.) Courage you already have in spades, and perseverance. So may the good luck pour down!
I've seen that research, too. But I had no neuropathy before I treated. Also clear for cryo.
I'll ask about ultram. Thanks!
Hi, did you know that there is a high association between Hep C and the development of peripheral neuropathy? From the way you worded your post it seemed that you were under the impression that the neuropathy was caused by the Interferon? Quix
The drugs used in Neurology aren't my specialty. Neurontin is an old drug and has been really useful for neuropathy, but the side effect profile is heavier than with other drugs. Recently I came across a discussion of the treatment of neuropathic pain and the author was more in favor of some of the newer drugs. I don't remember the specifics, but the one suggested was Lyrica (pregabalin). It is said to have a much better side effect profile.
Try a search for Lyrica neuropathy
I saw some good-looking articles - and a lot of anecdotal stuff. Sorry the ALA didn't help. It's always nice when one of the rather less toxic supplements does, but ...
Hope this helps, Quix
Curious - what were you on interferon for if I may ask, and was it straight interferon or one of the derivatives? Any chance the neuropathy was caused by the underlying disease itself? I'm asking this for personal reasons, as I have just started on Avonex.
