Fiber tightness in palm of hand

  Hello, My brother owns his own business where he uses his hands a lot. He has developed a condition where he can not open is hand all the way. Apparently the fibers where his fingers meet his hand are tight/damaged from turning a wrench/twisting or other wise over using his hand for gripping. Besides surgery...since he is deathly afraid of hospitals, can any kind of therapy be used to break up the tight mass preventing full extension of his hand!  Thank you....

Charles I've never met anyone who knows so many people with medical problems. What you are discribing sounds like dupuytren's contractures. The cause of this is unknown but may be related to problems with collagen cross linkage. Former president Ronald Regan was said to suffer from this condition. This medical condition is treated by orthopedists or hand surgeons but not neurologists. Therapy may be helpful but I believe if the symptoms are bad enough surgery is the treatment of choice.
