Fluid in surgical site

Fluid in surgical site

Postop craniotomy for 5 cm meningioma in right temporal lobe on March 24..  After complaining about my Dilantin, they finally checked and I was at a toxic level (29.6).  They reduced the dosage and it went down to 20.4.  Then I started having fevers.  Neurosurgeon sent me to the ER and temp was 101.9.  They were sure I had meningitis.  Did a spinal and fluid was clear except for a few WBCs,  Neurosurgeon had them send me by ambulance to the hospital where surgery was done (I live in a small town that cannot handle surgery like craniotomies and no weekend access to MRIs).  They did blood cultures, spinal fluid cultures, MRI and found nothing.  My neurosurgeon said it was probably a side effect of the Dilantin, so he stopped it. This took 4 days in the hospital to figure this out.  5 days off Dilantin and no seizure.  But, he did say there was some fluid in the surgical area (I can feel it in my temple area) and he said "I can stick a needle in there and drain it" and I said "You're the doctor, do we need to do that?"  He said "Not really".  So, we didn't.  Now, I wonder where does the fluid go?  Right after surgery, my nose would run clear fluid every now and then and I would feel better.  Nothing coming out my nose now, but headaches are getting worse and temp is up and down and all around.  Would this fluid end up like normal CSF fluid and go wherever the rest of the fluid goes or is it something I should push with my doctor?  Since he didn't push draining it, I figured it was no big deal....Thanks for any info ... I have Googled this and can't find much about where post surgical fluid goes.
