Foot drop

I am 9 weeks post operative after having a discectomy on L4/L5.  Prior to surgery I suffered from foot drop and it would seem that my surgeon was hoping that the surgery would relieve my symptoms.  

Has anyone else had this condition and what are their experiences?  I've been doing a lot of routing around on the internet and found loads of info about foot drop but no-one who says that they've suffered and got better!  

Can anyone give me any hope?
