Genito-femural nerve neuralgia?

Genito-femural nerve neuralgia?

Nearly 8 months after having laprascopic surgery for 3 hernias, my S/O continues to suffer from pain, numbness & cramping in the thigh/genital area that sometimes interferes with normal daily activity (including sexual relations). His surgeon was hesitant to say that this was a result of the surgery & referred him to a neurologist. After seeing the doctor today we came away with the possible diagnosis that the genito-femural nerve may have been damaged during surgery. He was given 2 options ... a pain management clinic or laproscopic surgery to kill the nerve. He was then referred to another surgeon. Any thoughts on this?

Without reviewing your husbands history, and more importantly his examination I cannot make a determination about the advice you have received. I would recommend seeking a second opinion at an acedmic center if you have more questions. There are several medications which can be used to treat irritated nerves, which the neurologist can discuss with you. Good luck.
