Hi HLES,

I guess the time it will take might vary on what they are specifically looking for. But as for what it's like being in the MRI machine itself....well...first it is very noisy. Lots of clanking and banging. They will give you ear plugs and I have even heard some others have been offered earphones w/ music (I have not been that lucky!) Despite the noise, I have actually managed to doze off. Your doctor should ask if your are clostrophobic (sp?) and if he/she doesn't, you should bring it up so that they can give you something to help you relax. You are in a confined space and must remain still as possible. I'm assuming this is a closed MRI vs an open MRI.

For me, I have had four MRI's and have been in there from 20 min to as long as almost 2 hours. Good luck, relax, and be sure to come back and let us know how it goes.

Thank you very much for responding. I hope I can relex, one of the reasons I'm having the MRI is because I keep having head shivers/jolts/shakes.

Hi there. Dont worry. It really is not that bad. Unless you are claustrophobic. If you are you must tell them before hand, I mean a day before,  so they can give you something to relax you.I recently had 4 done and it was my first time. The "bed" they put you on is quite narrow . Inside is all white and very bright. If they are doing a MRI of your head they may strap your head to make sure you dont move. It does not hurt. you will be given a pair of earplugs because it is quite noisy. They will also give you a buzzer in case you need to comminicate with them. If, at any time you feel you cant do it, they will take you out immediately. They usually tell you how much longer it will take.It does not hurt at all.The time you will be inside varies, one of mine was 12 mins, the next 55 mins. A tip to pass the time, I made myself think of the words to every song I knew alphabetically. Not so easy and the time flew! Best of luck with the tests and results.                                                           Cath278
