Head & Neck Rigidity

Head & Neck Rigidity

My mother who is in stage five of Alzheimer's is demonstrating extreme rigidity in her upper torso and neck/head. She had a brain tumor removed in 2000 and still takes Dylantin to avoid seizure activity. The lack of movement seems to result in a benign inner ear vertigo affecting her balance.

She never moves her head when talking, no animated movement. Is this a typical symptom of Alzheimer's or is it possible there is some seizure activity occuring resulting in the rigidness of her upper torso, neck and head???

Hi,
I can understand the clinical condition of your mother.
As you told she was diagnosed to be in stage five Alzheimer's, and now that she is experiencing extreme rigidity suggest that she might have progressed to stage seven Alzheimer's.
They are usually unable to do work like sitting up, smiling, swallowing, holding their head up, and their reflexes become abnormal and muscles get rigid.
Kindly take her to neuropsychologist and neurologist to further evaluate her condition.
