Headache with Dizziness

My boyfriend has been having headaches, accompanied by dizziness and ringing in his ears for 5 months now. It gernerally starts with a dizzy spell, ringing in his ears, and then a severe temperal headache. They are happening everyday, multiple times per day. He complains about constantly feeling drunk and he is afraid to drive.  His GP has diagnosed migraines and prescribed Elavil and Isometh, but my boyfriend refuses to take the Elavil because of the possible side effects and the Isometh made the headache worse.  They have done an MRI and he has an appointment with a neurologist in a month (5 month wait for an appoinment).  Could this be something other than migraines?  There is no common trigger factor that we have been able identify.
