Headache?

by jwbgmb, Aug 01, 2003 12:00AM
On July 12 I had what I would call a migraine headache. But it was different than what I have experinced before. It came on instantly and put me down for several hours. Since then for the last 3 weeks I have continued to have headaches. I would say that they are pressure type of headaches. They do seem to come and go a little but not completely and the pressure feeling also seems like it is always there. I have also been very tired and exhausted since then. I'm not sure if this is just from dealing with the pain or might be related in another way. Thanks in advance for you assistance.

There are mnay reasons to have headaches. It is known that people with intermittent migraine can occasionally convert to a chronic daily headache. Other things to consider are the use of excessive caffeine or analgesic medication. If you are using more then 3-4 doses of a pain medication (including over the counter medications such as Tylenol, Ibuprofen) you can acctually cause a headache. Excessive stress can also lead to a chronic headache. I would recommend starting with your primary care doctor for evaluation. If no answers are found then you could see a neurologist.

Please help! (No luck to post my question to a physician). I have been in pain (and still ongoing) since early June (June 5th) of this year.  One morning, I woke up with a massive headache on the left side of my head - which forced me to lie back down.  When I woke up again, the headache was gone. A couple of days later, I experience stabbing pain in the upper left side of my head, now radiates to the right, front, back and sides.  Lately, it is more like stinging, pressing pain and somewhat expanding.  Prior to all these, the left side of my head (small area) was warm (for at least 3 days). I have seen 3 Internal Medicine Doctors, a PT, a Dermatologist and a Neurologist.  I have gotten all blood work imaginable in this world.  I had requested a CT-scan as well and it turned out normal.  I was prescribed at least 5 medications - from 800 mg Ibuprofen, Butalbital, Tetracycline, Nortriptyline and Cimetidine (I think).  I saw the Neuro once again and was told that I was fine.  My blood work turned out to be all normal except for my SGPT, Alk Phos - somewhat elevated. I am to assume that the elevated readings may have been caused by all the medications I have been taking.  Other symptoms I currently experience are as follows: scalp tenderness (tend to move around the head), numbing/tingling sensation on right and left arms as soon as I wake up from a nap/sleep, sore neck, stabbing pain in the back and sore muscles and shoulders.  I am, you might say experiencing anxiety and stress right now because no one can diagnose what is causing these to begin with.  My only concern is to know what is causing the warm sensation on my scalp (head) and the pain, so that I can properly manage it.  Per my Neuro's diagnosis, I have Cervicogenic Headache, which I thought was simply not the case.  I have researched on the Internet and have used all the available resources I have, to no avail.  If you happen to come across this posting and may be aware of this condition or can shed some light to my dilemma, please do share your knowledge and experience.  I would definitely and sincerely appreciate your time and concern.  Thank you so much....

Good News - At least something for you to check out - I was experiencing these horrible pains all over my head - mainly towards the back but on each side - for several months now. Dr. thought I was insane!!! Started causing pain in my ears if I moved a certain way - through the temples, etc etc ---lasting about 3-5 seconds when it happened.

I happened to go in for a dental checkup - found I needed 2 crowns on the left side molars. Got the temporarys but it hurt like hell when he was drilling even with all the numbing gunk!

Well, after 10 days, the pains in my head etc were getting worse.  I called there yesterday (I'm supposed to get my permanent crowns next week) and told them that this is terrible & something was wrong.

Went in there this morning (8/15/03) at 8:15. He sent me to an endotontist for an emergency root canal. I did it & was out of there @ 11:00 am & she told me I had no infection but had a severely damaged nerve ending in one of my molars.

Guess what?????? I have absolutely NO SHARP PAINS today whatsoever. I have normal headaches from being dug into all morning but other than that I feel great - My pains in neck & shoulders are gone also - and ears etc etc.

I had a talk with her about this & needing a root canal - alot of people don't know they need it & it can cause terrible reactions if not treated ---including all my symptoms plus infection in other parts of the body.

GO SEE YOUR DENTIST IMMEDIATELY & hopefully this will be all you need!!!!

BEST OF LUCK!!!  You can reply to me @ ***@**** for any extra ????'s.
