My 37 yr. old daughter suffered a sudden, severe headache 2 weeks ago.
The next day a CAT scan was done and found to be normal. The headaches
continued on for 12 days... all other tests were normal and
the medications prescribed didn't help. The MRI found some abnormalities
and the spinal tap was normal except for the cerebral pressure was twice
the normal value. Today she had an angiogram and there was found to be no
aneurysms but there was vasospasms. The neurologist said that it could
be vasculitis, but her SED rate was 2 and way below what is expected for
vasculitis. He also said there was a probable bleeding incident, but blood
has never been seen on any of the scans or in the spinal fluid. She is very
frustrated that they can't find an answer for her pain. She is now in the
hospital for a few more days...they plan to repeat the angiogramin 7-10 days.
My question is...after 2 weeks and all the scans why wasn't blood ever
found if there was a bleeding episode? Could something else cause the
vasospasms? I just read about Idiopathic Intercranial hypertension..could
that cause the vasospasms? Her headache disappeared by the way after the
spinal tap was given...is that because the taking of the fluid reduced
the pressure? I would like any input you have to contribute. Thank you.
