For several years I have been troubled by auto glass giving me headaches. Many years ago I was effected by a car- so bad that I could not look through the windshield when I was driven around in it. In 2005 I bought a new car and was sick with nausea and headaches into my neckCervical spondylosis Head and neck glands Herpes zoster (shingles) on the neck and cheek Irritated seborrheic kerotosis - neck Lymph tissue in the head and neck. Melanoma - neck Neck lump Neck pain Neck pulse Neck x-ray Oral cancer. I am very sensitive to smellsSmell - impaired Stools - foul smelling and will get headaches instantly if I am exposed to perfumes, air fresheners, lotions etc...so I thought it was the new car smellSmell - impaired Stools - foul smelling that was effecting me. I had the car cleaned with an ozone machine. No avail. Every time I just sat in the car and looked thru the windshield the pain would start. I could see that the windshield had waves (very slight) and requested the glass to be switched out. It took several attempts- then finally the glass shop found one that did not effect me. I am in a similar situation now in '09 as I just purched a new car and this time the rear window is making me sick. I thought it was the 'new car smellSmell - impaired Stools - foul smelling' that was effecting me, so I had the car ozoned...just to be safeSafe driving for teens Safe sex . Again no avail. This time, however-it is the rear window! Everytime I look thru the rear window this phenomon starts up again. I am now seeking replacement of the glass. Thank God my dealer remebers me from the last time and is working with me. Does anyone have this crazy same thing ever happen to them??!! Please write to me. What is this?
Well, I don't think my comments are the answer, but just in case... I do not feel well every time I am in a car, old, new, or whatever. This is because the gasoline fumes in the car make me sick. An allergist can test you for that. Another thing, too, is to get your eyes checked by an optometrist and opthalmologist and see do you need glasses for distance and also to find out if maybe your eyes are not focusing on the road and instead on the glass for some unusual reason. Reflections can be quite bothersome to some people, a lot of times because they're tired, so you could try some UV screening sunglasses that remove reflections, and keep them in the car to use when you drive.
Thanks for the comment Ggreg. I do wear glasses and I had this issue before I wore them. My eyes have been tested.
It's the strangest thing...just looking thru the glass-ever so quick a glance as in the rear window causes discomfort. Most people don't notice, some do, but aren't as troubled as I am.
I just bought this car last wk. and told the service manager about my issue with the rear window, and I have an appointment with the manufacturer rep next wk. smae as last time- they will examine the glass and then replace it. My only hope is that the new piece will be better. FingersAmputated finger Amyloidosis on the fingers Clubbed fingers Cryoglobulinemia - of the fingers Finger pain Herpes zoster (shingles) on the hand and fingers Janeway lesion on the finger Kawasaki's disease, peeling of the fingertips Nail abnormalities Replantation of digits Ringworm, tinea manuum on the finger crossed. In the meantime, I have decided to tilt my rear view upward so I am not tempted to look thru it into the back window. This has helped-no headache!! But as you can imagine not entirely safe. Though, I still can see out the back window with this tilt-it is more of a reflection view than a true view-but I can see cars behind me.
On the reflection thing that I mentioned before, you can get these clip-on sunglasses with UV protection that also eliminates all reflections on the car glass, so I hope you get some of those and use them when you drive in your car, at least try them out if you aren't already. And I know what you mean about looking out the back window... for me, it's that I used to get worried about people tailgating, so I finally just tore the rearview mirror out of there one day! Ha! I wonder, too, if you might have a little vertigo, where things that move around the car make you a little dizzy and give you a headache. Anyhow, that's another idea to pursue if you want to with an ear nose throat ENT doc. But I agree with your ideas about it being the glass mostly, it's just that perhaps some car glass is more reflective than others, depending on whether it's tinted and all that jazz, so that's how come I mentioned the special sunglasses.
