I had a recent CT scan of my neck because of recurring problems with headaches, tingling in hands and muscle spasms, and although the CT showed there were no abnormalities other than a slight straightening of the natural curve in my neck, they did mention that there was evidence of "calcification" in the right vertebral artery near the base of my skull. My doctor was not very forthcoming with information when I asked him aside from ordering me a cholesterol test and telling me to give up smoking. My question is, could this explain why I get so many headaches and why my scalp regularly goes numb when I'm lying in such a way as to put pressure on the base of it (such as lying on the couch with my head propped up on the armrest)? I'm a 34yr old female of healthy weight. How normal is it to find calcification in an artery at my age? Is this something I need to ask more questions about with my doctor, or nothing to worry about?
